
Buffett declared that he would spend more than 80 percent of his money to charitable foundations. In 2020, Buffett increased that number to 99 percent. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which was established by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the first recipient. The foundation focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 90s. The three Buffett children as well as the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among the foundations that were the recipients of donations. They were focused on the rights of women's reproductive health, provided scholarships for college students, and also several other charities. The Giving Pledge was an invitation for other wealthy people to contribute a large percentage of their wealth to charities which was founded by Buffett and Gates back in 2010.
