
Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga encountered during this time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007, an imprint of Interscope Records. As an apprentice songwriter during an internship with Famous Music Publishing, which was later bought by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga was then able to sign a music publishing contract with Sony/ATV. The result was that she was hired to write music for Britney Spears as well as labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's first album, "The Fame", was released in 2008 with little radio attention. Gaga then toured Europe as well as performed in gay clubs in the US in support of The Fame album. Gaga made her debut on the scene in 2009 with her hit song "Just dance". Gaga was suffering due to a ruptured labral in her right leg. She had been secretly nursing for a few weeks in order so that she could go on the tour. After her performance in Toronto the singer was unable walk, and was suffering from severe pain. She was admitted to the hospital where her tour was canceled.
